I believe the whole point of the photon clock being out side the space craft is to establish that to the outside observer it is slower. If the clock was inside it would represent the internal observer who would not see anything slow down within the ship. That’s the whole point; perspective. Inside the ship everything would seem okay observed from outside the time within the ship would be slowed down. Atleast that’s my understanding of it.

Also, if I were a light particle cast at the same speed as my billions of brethren, then according to this theory, we would see each other going by one another at the speed of light, but how can this be if we are cast at the same time? photons of light all cast and reach at certain calculatable times, so I am glad they have called it a theory and not fact. illogical as it may sound, there are certain weird things that do happen when you approach the speed of light!

The problem with the moving clock theory is that its a geometric problem not a time problem. It would be like stretching a ruler and saying that the things you measure are smaller all of a sudden because you have a mechanical problem with the measuring device. In the cas eof the light clock, the particle would be going the same spee dforward and thus its X translation would be in equilibrium and cannot be used as a part of the calculation.

If it didn’t, it would violate 1. postulate of special relativity – all inertial frames are equal. Bertrand would notice the clock mysteriously slowing down for no apparent reason.

it’s just an example for clarity, not to be taken literally. but it has been proven experimentally that a body in motion will experience time at a slower rate, relative to any observer. for example, scientists have put an extremely accurate atomic clock on a jet, then after the flight compared it to a synchronized clock not moving on the ground. the clock on the jet was behind the one on the ground.
