What is the best way to travel from Spain to surrounding countries?

I am studying in Spain next fall and would like to travel a bit before my classes start. I would like to visit France, Italy, Germany and Poland. What are my options for reasonably priced travel? Would it be cheaper to ride by train or fly? Do I have any other options?

The eurolines bus, a Eurailpass for the trains, or cheap airlines like Ryanair, Easyjet, and Air Berlin.

The Eurolines bus is another option.

The train is cheap with a railpass, but expensive otherwise.

Flights really vary in price, but can be very cheap if you are flexible on where and when you fly since there are a lot of discounts at off-peak times. Just keep in mind that some cheap airlines use airports that are far outside of the cities they visit, and it can take a lot of time and money to get to them – I had a London – Amsterdam flight that cost $25 and took one hour, but the total trip from central London to central Amsterdam took a total of eight hours of traveling and $100 because I had to fly through Stansted and Maastricht airports – the cheap airline didn't use the real London and Amsterdam airports.
